The Republic of Cyprus elects six Members of the European Parliament in one island-wide constituency. In 2019 Niyazi Kızılyürek was elected on the AKEL list and served until July 2024. In the 2024 election he lost his seat. Turnout among registered Turkish Cypriots was about 7.0% in 2019 and 5.5% in 2024, per figures reported by Kathimerini and compiled by SWP. In May 2026 a Turkish Cypriot representative publicly demanded designated European Parliament seats for Turkish Cypriots — a stated political position.1234

The Republic maintains that all Cypriot citizens, including Turkish Cypriots resident in the north who hold Republic of Cyprus identity documents, are entitled to vote in European Parliament elections and are enrolled for that purpose; the Republic's stated position is that no separate quota of seats can be created for one community within a single national constituency, and that the low participation figure is a matter of abstention rather than exclusion.
