European Parliament
There is no communal quota of European Parliament seats. The Republic's stated position is that no separate quota can be created for one community within a single national constituency. Turkish Cypriots are not required by any located legal rule to stand only as independents.
National elections
Communal seats and northern districts
The 1960 Constitution allocates House seats by community, not by northern geography. The 24 seats reserved for the Turkish Cypriot community are the communal allocation; they have been vacant since 1964, so no filled seat is elected from the north.
